Old Forge
Old Forge
This Dorset holiday cottage had a large footprint but badly used space before renovations were carried out. Internal walls were reconfigured and excessive storage was removed to enlarge the rooms. Cupboards can often simply take up too much room. A series of small rooms were opened up to release natural light and valuable square footage. The far end of an oversized garage had a change of use to bring it into the house, to create a downstairs cloakroom and laundry. This type of redesign is often fairly simple but needs vision to see the potential a house has to offer. The garden underwent substantial landscaping and terracing of a steep bank, making the most of the breathtaking views that reward visitors on arriving at the highest point of the terraced garden.
