Sulgrave Road Phase II

The culmination of an eight-year renovation, this was the most recent in a rewarding sequence of complex projects. A previous phase involved integrating two adjoining ground floor flats, creating a sizeable, light and comfortable family home. This final project was a vertical integration after the first floor flat next door came up for sale. The technical challenge was the number of different levels to negotiate, seamlessly bridging the highest point on the ground floor to the lowest point on the first floor – the double ground floor flat to the first floor flat. Emma’s design solution was to insert a core into the new space and commission a bespoke new staircase. This has created a spacious and wonderful link between the two original flats. The structural changes are complete with a stunning ceiling wallpaper and sea-anemone style ceiling light over the new stairwell. As a designer, this has been a highly rewarding and interesting project, and unusual in being such an extended development. The additional floor, reconfigured and completed, has provided three additional bedrooms and two bathrooms for the growing family.
