Downstairs
A stunning new entrance hall and garden-side front door were created for this characterful Listed building, borrowing space from the original drawing room. Pocket doors lead into the reshaped drawing room which features a spectacular Palladian-style bay window with a window seat. By contrast, Emma designed the family room in a contemporary yellow, with an antique bookcase, large L-shaped sofa and fabulous, mustard coloured upholstered tub chairs that rotate to look out into the garden. During excavation for the family room, a well was discovered and has been retained to make an interesting feature in the floor. At the centre of the remodelled ground floor is a matt lacquer finished modern kitchen in ‘Mocca’ from Molteni&C. The kitchen, with its glass-walled dining extension, was constructed in the space created after the walls of an old corridor and two small rooms were removed. Working with Listed buildings has individual constraints and imaginative thinking is often required. Emma found the solution to the ancient wall nibs in the kitchen was to incorporate them within the kitchen island.
